Pets at Your Wedding

One would think that the biggest wedding trend these days was lace or multi-colored bridesmaid palettes, but no…it’s pets at your wedding! Wedding photos are pouring in this year, with dogs having a serious role in the affair. There is also the general animal theme, with many weddings held at farms that are opening as wedding venues. One thing is for sure. The results are a big hit with guests and couples alike…though we can imagine some photographers are pulling their hair out!

There are a few things to think about before including your pets in your special day. Is your pet amiable among crowds, or should you have a ‘pet sitter’ for the day? Would it be better for the pet to be carried down the aisle rather than ‘walk’? Have you informed your guests in case they have allergies? Have you checked with your venue to see if pets are welcome? Is your pet safe and comfortable in their ‘wedding attire’ for the day?

Some pets can attend without any trouble, just like any other guest, while others may need supervision in a crowd. If this concerns you, remember you can hire someone to care for your pet during the day. 

If your wedding party is willing…take advantage and get those fun animal moments!

If your pet can’t be part of the ceremony, perhaps choose to do your photos where your pet can be. If your wedding party is willing, take advantage of those fun animal moments! It is equally important to be sure you have a photographer who is comfortable with pets. Scroll through the photographers’ Instagram and make sure they have great pet shots! 

Some pets seem to love being ‘flowered up,’ but be sure that nothing irritates your pet. The bow tie seems most popular, but some pets go full-on formal with jackets and boots!

Taking the time to ensure all your ducks are in a row beforehand will prevent problems on the big day and keep everyone (on two legs or four) happy!

Pet Tips for Your Engagement Shoot…she said yes, and you are both excited for your engagement shoot with your photographer. Of course, you want to include your beloved pet in the photos. (For some great pet photo ideas, follow @petsatweddings). So what are some tips to making your shoot plus pet turn into some epic photos?

Be sure that your photographer is pet-friendly! This sounds nonsensical, but some photographers would rather not work with pets, and others are over the moon about it. So talk about your pet with your photographer beforehand. This also means your photographer can check beforehand that the locations they choose allow pets. Imagine starting your shoot only to realize no pets are allowed in the space? So having a good conversation when choosing your photographer is all-important.

Corral a good pet friend to help the day of your shoot (also on the day of your wedding but that is a whole other topic!). Have your friend take your pet for a long walkie while you and your photographer start your engagement session. Your pet should only arrive when you and your photographer are ready for the pet portion of the day. Have lots of treats on hand to help! If your pet is full of energy or hungry, it will be hard to catch those shots.

Are you dressing your dog or ‘flowering’ your pet for the shoot? Don’t suddenly have your dog in a clashing colour to style choices you have made. You can always purchase dog wear or wedding party signs for the cuteness factor. Be patient with flower collars, as your pet will need a few minutes to get used to them. You might even be treated with a few furbaby sneezes!

Remember, you will only need 15 to 30 minutes to get some wonderful shots with your beloved pet. Don’t stress if staring into the camera lens is not happening. Some of the best shots are the playful ones or of the two of you walking with your pet.

The wedding cake is a fun oval shape with muted orange and cream icing complete with print. Turquoise antique glass and vases hold candles alongside a gorgeous paper suite mirroring the décor.  The best part is the floral featuring bright blue bachelor buttons along with calla lilies, white peonies, purple larkspur and peach and yellow roses. 

A llama bedecked with tassels of every shade is not an everyday sight but this llama carries it off with panache! She ambles down the lane with the wedding couple looking perfectly at ease. There are so many farm weddings happening now that choosing a llama farm is actually a wonderful option. Original, unique and a lot of fun!

Game of Thrones Wedding Inspiration – the show may be over but the trends that it created live on… Medieval style inspired this beautiful shoot from the hairstyle to the sword and white horse.  The setting of the grassy meadow and rock beach were chosen to resemble some of the scenes in the popular show. 

The gown was chosen with simplicity in mind along with the embroidery and lacing in back to suit the time period. The black fur was added for drama. The groom donned an earth toned brown suit. Obviously, the magical white horse completed the entire mood of an epic shoot!

Care was taken to ensure that the makeup and hairstyle accentuated the inspiration. Smoky browns and blacks were used on the bride’s eyelids with contouring to accentuate her high cheekbones and an earthy berry colored lip was used to top everything off. 

The bride was given a loose, organic feel braid that tumbled down her back using extensions to add thickness and length to the hair. The piece de resistance was the gorgeous jeweled vine down the back of the braid.
