Wedding Planner Showcase: If there are beautiful people, endless flowers, happy friends, joyful laughter all around, and some of the best décor you will see in Vancouver…then you are probably looking at a Cherry Wang Wedding. ‘Pinterest worthy’ is the best way to describe Cherry Wang’s weddings.
Cherry credits it all to her tourism management professor (Capilano University) from who mentored her in how to run a business. Cherry’s love for managing events was a leftover from her work in China and when she saw there was an opportunity to move those skills into weddings, she thought ‘why not’! She decided to take the Dream Group Wedding Planner Class and realized experience would be the key factor. So, seven years ago, Cherry Wang International Weddings began.
Since then Cherry and her team have delivered over 200 Weddings at venues across the Lower Mainland including Shangri-La Vancouver, Rosewood Hotel Georgia, Fairmont Vancouver, Fairmont Waterfront, Trump, Mayfair Golf Course Richmond, Grouse Mountain North Vancouver, Brix and Mortar, Hatley Castle in Victoria and many more…

Cherry Wang had previously worked hard in China at a media company. She learned to deal with large clients and became an expert at the Chinese media advertisement. And she ran events for her company. Her Tourism and Management Degree helped her become very familiar with hotel venues, resorts and banquet facilities.
Cherry’s first wedding couple are still friends with her today and supporting her in everything she does. This personal care for her couples along with a deep understanding of the Chinese world in Canada has caused serious business growth since opening. She has doubled her business every single year and attributes this to word of mouth in the Chinese community and social media.
We asked Cherry a few questions about her wedding philosophy and what makes Canadian Chinese Weddings special:
How would you describe the Chinese idea of weddings?
Weddings are very important in Chinese life. They prefer to have a very beautiful wedding and so we are willing to spend on food and decor. A Chinese wedding planner has to really understand the thinking about weddings on the Mainland and the western influence on weddings here in Canada. I feel that, because I grew up and worked in China, that I understand the culture in both countries. I really am able to understand the fusion look that couples, and their family, are looking for. One huge difference which effects the Chinese weddings in Canada is being unable to get a venue for days ahead. This changes what looks can be accomplished. One reason Chinese Mainland weddings are ‘crazy’ is that they can have a venue for days and days ahead of the event.
What is your inspiration here in Canada?
I love Vancouver – I have been given many opportunities to return to China but I want to stay in this city. The beautiful views, friendly people, such nice venues and the weddings are more boutique. My team and I can create very impressive weddings here where flowers are natural and pretty. I love being able to show what a natural look we can create for Asian couples who marry here.
How would you describe your wedding couples?
Of course, some are still wanting the more traditional huge Chinese wedding and I am an expert on that. Others have been in Canada their whole lives and need a fusion wedding – one that has traditional aspects for family and the Western influence for themselves and their younger friends. Most of my couples are around my age – 35 or younger. I feel confident with them because I know what they are talking about and what they want.
What can Cherry Wang Productions offer couples?
WE do it all – a one stop shop for a Vancouver Asian Wedding. Everything is taken care of through us. We can even help a bride find the custom gown of her dreams. So planning, decor, floral, gowns, men’s style, transportation, venue, catering etc. However, if a couple only needs my help in some of the planning, I can do that too.
I have very strong relationships with vendors and I can work with different suppliers if that is what the couple wants. Most couples though prefer to work only with me and trust my long standing relationships with excellent wedding industry vendors. My mantra with my wedding suppliers is ‘charge right and do your best work’. This is how I know the very best work will be done. I want my couples to have no stress and be relaxed and comfortable about their wedding.
What do you feel makes you a great wedding planner?
I have the Chinese experience and the Vancouver experience! I have traveled the world but still return to Vancouver. It is calm and has it all. Gorgeous scenery with mountains, lakes, oceans…it’s all here and available for couples on their special day. I love weddings here and I love planning weddings here. I am not the most expensive as I want to be there for couples who are wanting something beautiful and lasting. So I try my best to put whatever budget a couple has to make the best day possible for them.
