Accessible by a seven minute foot ferry ride across the Nanaimo Harbour, Newcastle Island boasts a unique natural environment with a tranquility that blends wonderfully with a wedding atmosphere. Newcastle Island or Saysutshun is an important part of the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation and is operated by the Nation today.

Pavilion Hall: The historic 1930’s Pavilion Hall is unique in its appearance and charm as a one of a kind venue for a reception. Built to accommodate lavish dance parties in the 1930’s, the smoke-free pavilion hall features a small stage, a 2700 sq. ft. sprung dance floor space, antique lighting, open-air shutters, a rustic vaulted ceiling and washroom facilities. 

Shelter & BBQ Pit: Our Barbecue Pit and outdoor picnic shelter has hosted many large groups and is ideal for your company picnic, family reunion, or rehearsal barbecue! The picnic shelter provides protection from the elements and the facilities are nestled between beautiful woodland and a grass field that is perfect for an impromptu soccer game or dancing barefoot under the stars.

Outdoor Special Event Space: Does your event require a specific setting? Perhaps you need space to land a fleet of kayaks or canoes – or your group needs a more rugged space to set up. Saysutshun offers park space – including areas like Mark Bay, Kanaka Bay, Brownie Bay or the back country – to accommodate all kinds of special events on the island. Catering: We offer a wide range of buffet options from casual to elegant; our catering coordinator will work with you to customize your menu according to your taste and budget. Cultural Experiences: Make your event unique by immersing your guests in the rich cultural traditions of the Coast Salish people. Our event coordinator can work with you to include part of our cultural history in your event. Choose from customizable interpretative tours, salmon BBQ meal, traditional Snuneymuxw singers and story tellers, cultural dancers, dugout canoe rides and more. 

Getting to Newcastle Island…

It can be challenging to coordinate transportation for a large group to and from the island – so let us do it for you! Our Saysutshun Ferry Coordinator will assist you in chartering a ferry for all your guests and ensure there are sufficient return ferries.
