Wedding Vista with a View...what a wonderful day at Blaylock Mansion. A ceremony held on a hillside with a backdrop of mountains. A reception filled with food and fun. Plus the bridal pathway, the cupcakes and the floral on an A frame pull together a dream.
Blaylock Mansion in filled with many charming and romantic settings for weddings. This kind of ceremony location is an experience for the bridal couple and guests to remember. The bride chose to walk along a pathway to the ceremony. A wedding vista with a view to be sure!
We love the bride’s style for this special day. A low V neck gown featuring lace bodice and beautiful flowy skirt. Her natural beauty is highlighted with long brown curls falling down her back. A bridal bouquet of blush, burgundy and beige dahlias and roses is complemented with greenery. Her groom is stylish in his own right in a blue suit and spectacular boutonniere.
We love the reception details with lovely cupcakes and an outdoor supper. The pizza party at a children’s table is an inspirational idea for sure. Iced cookies are a unique and pretty touch. Tables filled with neutrals and decor. This Wedding Vista with a View is a naturally beautiful interior BC wedding inspiration.
Top 10 Reasons to Choose an Okanagan Destination Wedding
Top 10 Reasons to Choose an Okanagan Destination Wedding by Liz Moore… there are so many fantastic reasons to choose a destination wedding in the Okanagan Valley. Firstly, you’ll experience rolling hills and valleys filled with a lush green oasis of vineyards. Secondly, you’ll love the one of a kind wedding venues found throughout the region. Thirdly, resorts boast the region’s best natural landscapes, including some of British Columbia’s best native artwork. And the list goes on and on. Here are my top 10 reasons to choose the Okanagan for your destination wedding! Main Photo: Picture Courtesy of Day by Knight Wedding + Events Kelowna and Boketto Photography
REASON 10 – Okanagan Dream Destination Weather
We know through experience brides often think of a peak summer wedding in the Okanagan. And yes, it is simply divine to marry during this time. Not to mention in July, Okanagan lavender is in full bloom and perfect for bridal bouquets! The summer encompasses lovely sun and heat and very little rain. It’s ideal for planning your outdoor wedding ceremony and reception. Some parts of the Okanagan, such as Osoyoos, are located in the desert belt. Average temperatures are warmest in peak summer months. They are often reaching up to (35C) or (77F). Therefore sunset weddings are more suitable during this time.
REASON 9 – Off Peak Season Pricing Perks
Let’s face it: The Okanagan Valley is a fantastic destination choice during the popular summer months. However, there are additional advantages to consider booking your wedding in the pre-or post-summer season. True, it’s a little more off-season as far as lake activities and sports.
However, these times do make for overall more competitive hotel pricing. And often, venue pricing becomes a little more reasonable in price point as well. The added benefit is that your out of town guests can stay a bit longer. And enjoy an abundance of post-wedding festivities and tours.
REASON 8 – Easy Access from Western Canada and US
Once you are in your designated area of the Okanagan, getting around this region is very easy. Highway 97 (The Okanagan Highway) is the main road that will take you straight from North Vernon to Southern Osoyoos. Many out of town guests may opt to fly into Kelowna International airport. And here there are lots of car rental options to choose from. Guests driving from Alberta and further East will find the highways both Southern and Northern also convenient for travel.
REASON 7 – Fantastic Group Fun!
The Okanagan valley has long been a go-to destination for vacationers around the country and beyond. The gorgeous long stretch of Okanagan Lake and surrounding mountains provide the ultimate backdrop for a scenic summer vacation paradise. Here are some fantastic top 10 reasons why your wedding group will love it!
Consider booking a boat tour on the lake for your group. There are a variety of options here to consider. Cruise your leisurely afternoon away. Or plan a sunset dinner trip, complete with musical entertainment. And your fishing guests will be sure to enjoy fishing for the catch of the day. Or at least have great fun trying!
Hiking trails galore
Another excellent group option would be to explore the hiking trails. There are so many fantastic trails to tackle in the region. One particular favourite of mine is at Silver Star Mountain Resort. The resort’s gondola offers 22 kilometers of hiking trail splendor. Additionally, the high-speed chairlift accesses the bike park. Perfect for those action adventurists in your group. Kelowna hiking includes Knox Mountain, Angel Springs trail, just to name a few of the vast options here!
Of course, you won’t want to miss booking a group tour of the spectacular vineyards that dot along the Okanagan valley. One of my favourite wine tour companies is Sip Happens Wine Tours. They are conveniently located in all central city locations in the Okanagan Valley. Tours run from April through to October. Pretty much the entire wedding season! And best of all you can book a half-day or full-day tours. Most importantly, they can accommodate both smaller intimate and larger festive groups.
REASON 6 – LGBTQ Friendly
Our LGBTQ community will love Kelowna and the surrounding area when it comes to exchanging their wedding vows. The Okanagan Valley warmly welcomes our same-sex wedding community. To note same-sex weddings are legal throughout Canada. And our LGBTQ community will feel entirely at ease while vacationing here. Keep in mind mid-June is usually when Kelowna celebrates Kelowna Pride. Therefore planning a June wedding in Kelowna can work out great for post-wedding fun in the Okanagan Sun!
REASON 5 – Romantic Honeymoons
Your beautiful Okanagan Valley wedding is now completed. And with Kelowna deemed one of Canada’s most beautiful cities, your wonderful honeymoon is about to begin. Pristine lakes, lush vineyards and delicious fruit orchards are yours to explore. I’ve got a gem of accommodation for your honeymoon, A Vista Villa.
A Vista Villa is located in beautiful, picturesque Kelowna. And they offer four beautifully appointed honeymoon suites. You’ll enjoy complete privacy and total comfort. Plus, you’ll have the added benefit of a world of wine and off-site adventures right at your fingertips. The warm and inviting staff here are ready to assist with fabulous honeymoon adventures. And most importantly, a warm, inviting and memorable start to your new life together!
One of my favourite tours for honeymooners is Cheers Okanagan Tours. It’s genuinely one of the best ways to experience Okanagan Wine Country. You’ll enjoy a variety of tour times that take you through the Okanagan region’s most famous vineyards. Then enjoy a delicious picnic lunch together with your group.
Another of my favourite things to do while on your honeymoon is visiting Burrowing Owl Estate Winery. Especially if you are staying in the Osoyoos region. It’s just a quick drive from Osoyoos. Or better yet, rent bikes and take a leisurely ride over to experience some of the Okanagan’s best food and wine. Not to mention spectacular vineyard views!
Okanagan’s Idyllic Locations
The Okanagan region of British Columbia is truly one of the most spectacular areas in Canada. This is why so many couples from Vancouver, Alberta and the Western United States are flocking here to marry. From Vernon to Kelowna, Penticton to Osoyoos, you’ll find a wealth of venues and resorts to plan your fairytale wedding.
Best of all, the vast 135 Km Okanagan Lake flows through each of these famous cities. Additionally, adding a plethora of fun lake activities for group vacation fun. And, of course, those much-desired gorgeous wedding photographs. Above all, did I mention all the fantastic photographers you have to choose from here in the Okanagan and Vancouver area? The list is long and part of the top 10 reasons to marry here!
REASON 4 – Vernon
Vernon is located in the Northernmost area of the Okanagan Valley. It’s known for its unique accommodations. And, of course, its breathtaking natural beauty. Not to mention an abundance of activities for adventure seekers. A group post-wedding hiking adventure is at the top of my list for group wedding suggestions. You’ll find the hills and valleys bursting with blooms. Especially during the spring season. And of course, the golfers in your wedding group will be in golf heaven here.
Food: Delectable Offerings
Planning a wedding in Vernon allows your guests to experience an extraordinary farm to table experience. Local honey production and dozens of orchards make for a scrumptious wedding reception dinner menu. Additionally, you won’t want to miss visiting Triple Island Cheese Farm. Not to mention adding their delicious range of freshly made gouda to your wedding cocktail reception.
Hotel: Predator Ridge Resort

This property also boasts a convenient location only 30 minutes from the Kelowna International Airport. Best of all, it’s pet friendly. So no dog is left behind with your wedding group vacation plans.
REASON 3 – Osoyoos
Osoyoos is located in the furthermost southern region of the Okanagan. It’s conveniently located right on the border of Washington State. This area has become particularly popular for US destination wedding couples. Moreover, it offers up the warmest lake in Canada. Perfect for summer swimming and fun-filled water activities. Your guests will very much appreciate this after a day of wonderful day of touring the Okanagan Valley vineyards.
This premium property offers an entirely tranquil and sublime setting for your Okanagan destination wedding. Guests will bask in the picture-perfect natural landscapes. And delight in an abundance of resort amenities. Thus ensuring you’ll have the most memorable wedding vacation experience.

Most importantly, your guests will enjoy the 226 adobe-style condos and villas. Your beloved guests will experience full kitchens, balconies complete with BBQ and welcoming fireplaces. It’s a true desert oasis. Above all, the sun and little chance of rain will ensure your dream wedding is picture-perfect. Similarly, the winery, beachfront, and golf course offer a very welcome extended vacation stay for you and your guests.
REASON 2 – Penticton
Did you know that Vernon is just one of two cities in the world situated right in between two lakes? Additionally, the Okanagan and Skaha beach offer up 15 acres of premium sandy beaches. And better yet you can enjoy endless summer swimming in both! Are you searching for that ideal vineyard for your romantic wedding photos? Then you’ll love the 80+ vineyards located in Penticton surrounding areas.
Similarly, this area boasts three distilleries and six craft breweries for the beer connoisseurs in your group. Not to mention a cidery as well. Now that’s a lot of thirst-quenching fun in the Okanagan Sun!
Penticton Lakeside Resort & Conference Centre
I love the location of this property! It’s located right in the heart of beautiful downtown Penticton. And what’s so lovely is you can offer a casual, fun-filled group wedding celebration. Or a formal, elegant, over the top black-tie reception. Above all, the conference center is stunning. You are boasting 13 event locations, which also include two ballrooms. It’s a one-stop-shop for your wedding venue and accommodations.
Painted Rock Estate Winery
This sought after venue is also located in picturesque Penticton, BC. Situated on a beautiful, terraced hillside, this property offers outstanding views of Skaha Lake. Excellent local caterers are just the start of your fabulous wedding reception here at the Painted Rock Estate Winery. What I also love about Painted Rock Estate Winery is the option to choose unique wedding desserts. For something truly unique, you can set up a delicious pie or tart table. The sleek modern minimalist design here allows you to create your own stunning wedding colour palette.
REASON 1 – Kelowna
Kelowna is truly all that you would expect in a dream group wedding vacation. To start, you’ll enjoy countless amenities, and incredibly expansive lake. And not to mention world-class hotels. Your guests can meander through quaint markets and a multitude of orchards are nearby to explore. And the local markets are perfect for finding those little wedding gems. The other nice aspect of a Kelowna destination wedding is the world-class accommodations. You’ve got 5-star luxury lake and mountain view hotels. Off the beaten path bed and breakfast lodging. Along with charming motels and sparkling pool resorts. This is where a wedding travel agent specialist comes in handy. They can assist in finding the most desirable accommodations for your group. And of course, the one with the closest proximity to your wedding venue.

Road Trip Elopement Inspiration
Road Trip Elopement Inspiration…everyone loves a road trip but, even better, is a road trip ending with an elopement! This inspirational shoot stars a marvelous classic blue car that creates quite the pop of colour in the majestic mountain scenery. Smoke bombs, a yellow couch and burgundy roses make for a unique décor palette So, buckle up!.
This couple are glamourous in dark, stylish colours and flowers. The bride has a gorgeous floral crown with her sparkly burgundy gown and carries a bouquet of blush pink roses. We love the black hat with florals, as well. The groom dons a blue shirt with burgundy tie.
We love the the lounge tableau at the end of the road. The yellow couch is the piece de resistance and so much fun! The bride and groom come to ‘the end of the road’, so to speak, and find this amazing tableau. So, of course, there are smoke bombs to add to the scene. This road trip elopement inspires any couple looking for a unique and travel themed wedding!
Champagne Bubbles: Capturing Your Newlywed Moment….We love that moment when a couple steps away from their ‘I do’s’ and pops the cork on their first champagne bottle as a new couple. There will be more bottles in the future with new homes, babies, promotions and holidays. There was likely a bottle involved at your proposal! So this is one of those ‘must capture’ moments with your photographer. But how to catch the perfect photos?
Of course, it would be wonderful if every champagne moment was caught without any planning but the truth is that the best shots have some thought behind them. Try to imagine where you would like your backdrop to your champagne opening and have the bottle and glasses there ahead of time. Make it part of the schedule that you will be running there right after the ceremony. Make sure your photographer is well aware of what you would like by sending ‘photo ideas’ ahead of time.
Opening a bottle of bubbly out of sheer joy is not the only moment that champagne can be used at your wedding. Think champagne towners, tiny bottles as giveaways, having a glass poured for each guest for a toast, dueling cocktail hour, and during pre celebrations with bridesmaids. Thankfully, we no longer ‘behead’ the bottles with sabers (yes, that’s the from the French) but remember to aim away from anything you might not wish to damage.
The champagne bottle moment is an opportunity for newlyweds to take a little time out of an exciting day for themselves. Be joyful about the ceremony that has just celebrated their love and acknowledge the future that creates. So take the time to be sure you capture your first champagne bubbles as newlyweds – raise a glass to yourselves and the milestone you have reached together!
Venetian Elegance Vancouver Style for Stefania + David
Venetian Elegance was more than just a wedding theme for Stefania and David. David proposed at the Venetian in Las Vegas. The two of them so loved the resorts richness of golds and classic whites that they decided to have the same regal and classy look when they married. They also carried the look through the reception with touches of Venetian luxury. Ladies at their reception were gifted with a Maschera del Galeone Venetian Masks from Venice while the gentlemen received a bottle of Jack Daniels whisky.
they both knew they would get married one day
David + Stefania met in high school but it wasn’t until after school that they began to talk and see one another. During the first couple of months they both knew this was and that they would eventually get married. They dated for 7 years before David surprised Stefania with the proposal in Las Vegas on a gondola at the Venetian. After Stefania said ‘yes’ they had a few days of celebration with family and friends in Vegas.
a ceremony of deep religious meaning surrounded by white orchids
The wedding planning for all of the Venetian Elegance started in Vegas when Stefania’s sister made a list of everything to do once they were back in Vancouver. The ceremony was unique and beautiful being held at the Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Vancouver. White orchids were everywhere as Stefania and her bridesmaids walked down the aisle. The ring bearer was adorable and the groom and his groomsmen were handsome in their custom suits. Afterwards, guests luxuriated in the food and laughter at the Vancouver Club reception. A stunning tiered cake with gilt gold edges was covered in blush and merlot roses and served to guests later in the evening.
stunning tiered cake with gilt gold edges
As Stefania says. “It was the wedding I had always dreamed about becoming a reality. We were fortunate to have all the small and big things we wanted be a part of our big day, from the flowers to the custom made dress it was truly perfect. Our wedding was definitely the best day of my life, as cliche as that sounds I wouldn’t change one thing. All our vendors went above and beyond to truly bring our vision to life and we will be forever thankful to everyone who made this experience and our day perfect!”
Fallon, originally from Esperance in Western Australia, was a seasonaire at Big White Ski Resort before moving to Whistler and working as the salon/spa manager at Be Beauty. Whistler. Which is where she met Hayden – who is originally from Dorset in the UK and works at the Four Seasons Hotel.
With breathtaking panoramic views of the coastal mountain range, the Stawamus Chief, and Howe Sound, the Sea to Sky Gondola is an unbeatable wedding venue. The venue was so hospitable providing the wedding party with snowshoes and showing the most incredible spots to photograph.
A favourite feature at the gondola is the 100m long Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge. The bridge offers amazing 360 degree views of the area, both up to the high alpine of the mountains above and down to the fjord below.
Helen Sarah Photography wrote about this shoot: “We were fortunate that the bridge was not busy so we could photograph the entire spectacle and the breathtaking landscape below. After exploring the bridge and its surroundings, we took our bride and groom on the Panorama Trail. The 1.6 km long loop trail takes you through coastal forest, Alaskan Blueberry bushes and granite outcroppings. The walk was dreamlike; snow was melting off the trees as light peaked through the cedars falling on Fal and Hayden flawlessly. Their hilarious smiles and infectious banter made everything wonderful.
Halfway through the trail is the Chief Overlook Platform: a cantilevered deck that juts out over a sheer drop and offers majestic views of the ocean and surrounding mountains.
This was an unreal day; we were surrounded by so much energy and natural beauty. We are sure these two have an exciting future ahead of them.”
Congratulations to Fallon + Hayden on their wedding and these amazing photos!
Cydney + Adam’s Squamish engagement session imitated their new life together. It was not your usual to say the least! Their adventures together actually led to them finding their new home here on the West Coast. Cydney tells their truly original story:
“Love at first rent. We met in a slightly unconventional way (to be honest who doesn’t meet in unconventional ways these days?) where Cydney moved into her new student house in second-year university and complained to the landlord about the mess that was left by the previous student tenants. The landlord assured her that a cleaning team would be over to come to sort it out, low-and-behold the landlord themselves came to clean up the house; this landlord being Adam.
Since we’ve been through exciting adventures around the world both together and independently, grew businesses and faced challenges. At the end of it all, we always came back together, grew stronger, and partnered up for the next mountain to climb (both literally and figuratively). Rock climbing played a key role in our relationship and helped us work together as a team and find common interests that we could develop together. We became so dedicated to the sport that we eventually packed up all our belongings, moved into a van and traveled North America looking for climbing destinations. You learn a lot about someone when you only live in 80 sq ft. This trip took us to discover our new home which is now Squamish, BC – another rock climbing mecca.
Rock climbing also led us to the moment Adam proposed. We were on a fall trip to Moab, Utah – some of the best sandstone crack climbing and one of our favourite climbing destinations – and just finished climbing in a remote area for the day. We were by ourselves in the middle of nowhere on a goat trail with a 45-degree slope heading 100’s of feet down into the valley. Adam turns around on this trail and decides to propose and I was so shocked I turned around and started walking the other way. After we celebrated with a Mexican meal in town as opposed to our usual jet-boil pasta in freezing temperatures (desert gets chilly at night!).”

Remember the saying, “first impressions are everything?”
This holds true for just about everything in life… including your wedding.
After all, the first thing your guests will notice when they open your invitation? The colour scheme.
More than simply a matter of aesthetic, the colour scheme of your invitation provides cues to the type of occasion they can anticipate (will it be formal, relaxed, stylish?) as well as communicates the story of who you are as a couple.
Because something as seemingly simple as the colours you select can make SUCH an impression, we encourage our clients to select a colour scheme they can get excited about.
Although it may seem like a difficult decision in the beginning, once you have the colour scheme established, the rest of your planning should fall into place with grace and ease. While it’s 2018, and we’ve tossed our rule books out the window for the most part – there are a few principles we can pay heed to when settling upon the perfect colour scheme.
Here’s how today’s couple can select a wedding colour scheme true to your personal style, all while looking effortlessly pulled together.
1) Consider Your Wedding Theme
How would you describe the look and feeling of the wedding of your dreams?
Identifying your wedding theme will help the colour selections come naturally; giving you a range of options to choose from. There are specific colour combinations to work with that are associated with different looks – for example, what could possibly be more classic than a timeless wedding color palette of white with blush, black, and crimson accents?
Or perhaps you’re today’s modern romantic; falling for a colour scheme of whites, beiges, and blushes for that dreamy bridal look.
And if it’s that beachy, bohemian look you’re after? You’ll want to take inspiration from nature – think corals and sandy tans with a punch of aquamarine. Catch our drift?
2) Look To Your Venue for Inspiration
Ideally, the colour palette and theme will complement or pay homage to the venue; visually adding to the beauty of the space rather than competing or clashing with it. Some venues may have a bounty of colours “built-in”; for example an English garden will have seasonal blooms and tons of greenery to account for, whereas a warehouse or white-washed loft will provide a blank canvas for your ideas. Considering where you’ll be hosting your wedding will help determine a look and feel that will come with ease to the venue.
3) Seek Inspiration Beyond Wedding Inspo
If scrolling down Instagram and poring through countless Pinterest boards has you feeling weary and exhausted by the sheer amount of options – don’t be intimidated to look elsewhere for your ideas. Flip through a fashion magazine, catch an art show, or look to your travels for inspiration. If Paris isn’t an option, not to fret – you can get ideas even by a waterfront stroll or a walk through your favourite city.
4) On A Budget? Think Seasonal
As with grocery shopping (and most things in life), staying seasonal is typically a good way to save money. If you’re watching your spend, consider planning your colour scheme around the time of year and which blooms will currently be in season.
One common myth is that you’ll only have a bounty of blooms to choose from with a summer wedding, however that’s not the case – casablanca lilies, gardenias, holly, jasmine, orchids, roses, poinsettias, and even pussy willows make a stunning wintery wedding come alive!
If you allow nature to be your guide, then you can narrow down your theme options a bit closer. For example, roses and casablanca lilies will perfectly offset a winter wedding with traditional white and black accents, whereas summer’s freesias and queen ann’s lace would beautifully offset a creamy, pale pastel wedding look. Or try some lush, tropical foliage to complement your jewel-toned wedding
5) Avoid “Matchy-Matchy”
While we love a good colour scheme more than anyone, possibly – we do want to avoid that dreaded “high-school prom look”. Much like that perfectly undone makeup look that’s so big today, having matching accents on everything doesn’t exactly spell out that effortlessly chic look we’re going for!
It might be tempting to bring Pantone chips with you to visit every vendor (and there’s nothing wrong with this), but consider remaining to suggestions for colour choices to help bring your vision to life. For example, an experienced florist might have “just” the mauve-pink calla lillies to bring your traditional wedding theme to life. Providing a few images of the overall feeling you’re going for will help vendors find just the right options for you – while suggesting some complimentary hues, too. Best yet, get your vendors on the same page – so all of the design elements will come together flawlessly.
As for the other things that may go awry during your wedding day?
We say, expect the unexpected – but with your decor looking on point, you can roll with it!
Heart is in Havana – Tropical Bridal Inspiration
Havana…my heart is in Havana…tropical bridal inspiration on the West Coast of Canada. We love seeing the inspiration that can come from artistic endeavors such as music! The very popular music of Camila Cabello influenced Alyssa of AJR Designs to bring the greenery into gorgeous bridal style.
This styled editorial is a bit of boho with a contemporary vibe. Vintage rattan pieces, a wonderful arch along with a rum and cigar bar brings the Cuban feel! We love the beautiful lace open backed gown and natural hair and makeup.
Fun touches include the doughnut wall placed among sweet treats for the guests. The very original place setting guide for guests consists of a vase filled with greenery and the names in removable marker around the glass.
We especially admire the glass reception table graced with over sized palm leaves. The plate settings include menus from a thematic paper suite and a dash of colour with the red napkins.
Rocky Mountain Newlyweds – Adventure on Top of the World
Rocky Mountain Newlyweds – Adventure on Top of the World
The Rocky Mountains are what every couple wants as their after wedding session backdrop and Jane and Bryan had a vision in mind. This adventurous couple couldn’t wait to climb the mountain peaks for stunningly beautiful photos of a lifetime.
Bryan and Jane worked with photographer Joel Abrahamson to create a unique and intimate feeling to their photos. While the mountains around them seem overwhelming -the couple were all about each other and it shows! Jane’s gown, with it’s wispy flowing skirt, is perfect as it blows in the wind. And Bryan’s choice of a blue suit blends perfectly with the colours of the sky behind them.
Rocky Mountain Newlyweds and Adventure Climbing
One thing we love about this couple and their grand adventure is that they are also a great example of how to do this practically. It’s one thing to have this amazing idea and it’s another to make it happen. Be sure that you find a photographer who is not only willing to go to the top of the world but it also comfortable with the reality. And experienced. Weather, winds and heights are not something everyone is wanting to challenge!
As well, there is the glamour versus reality. Jane and Bryan look like they stepped off a runway but we love that Jane has the prettiest flats to wear and naturally beautiful hair and makeup. She prepared to be windblown!
Jane and Bryan obviously love life and think big. We can only imagine what the rest of their lives together will be!
Downtown luxury elegance meets old world mystery and glamour. Descriptive words abound when it comes to this styled editorial set in the newest and most opulent venue in the city. This gorgeous shoot features European bridal gowns, locally designed jewelry and wild, romantic florals.
We love the bold yet beautiful looks that these brides are showcasing. Dark smoldering eyes and luscious lip colours draw the eye to the sophisticated bridal style. Who wouldn’t want to look like this!
The bridal gowns are especially dramatic with lace bodices, layered tulle skirts and statement style. The bouquets showcase unusual florals capturing the moody romance with colour and texture. Jewellery frames the faces of these beautiful brides with crystal earrings, pearl necklaces and rings. Don’t be afraid to add bling to your nuptial look!
Modern City Skyline
The best part of this editorial? The skyline along with the amazing interior design creates photos that are architecturally perfect. Unusual colours and geometric shapes are embraced in a novel take on bridal portraits. Perhaps the Vancouver skyline might be something to think about when planning your wedding shoot!!
Beautiful Winter Wedding Adds New Chapter to a Love Story
Beautiful Winter wedding inspiration from Jenelle & Lonnie who are the perfect couple for this winter scape. Jenelle is a planner extraordinaire with impeccable attention to detail. We loved the many touches that made this wedding so warm and inviting.
Mount Washington on Vancouver Island showcases the incredible snow covered mountain top views that surround the couple and their guests. They did have to deal with a tiny bit more snow than expected (20 cm!) but it seems to have just made the day more special.
Let’s start with some of the details that made us fall in love with these nuptials. Warm blankets in a basket for cold guests, a completely unplugged ceremony, a sign stating venue elevation and lots of signage. Our fav is the ode to Lonnie’s golfing hobby where guests had to sink a putt before the couple would kiss!
Jenelle confesses that she originally had a summer wedding planned. Then she really looked at Mount Washington and fell in love with the open beams and windows. So she adjusted her plan to a winter wedding! Eucalyptus and mercury votive in black lanterns adorned the long tables and provided a warm and cozy feel.
Winter Perfect Gown + Stole
We love the Enzoani lace gown covered in a leaves motif (eucalyptus leaves!) and the faux fur stole is perfect! The pearl bracelet is from Jenelle’s mother – who bought it 33 years earlier in Hawaii while on her honeymoon. Jenelle planned the colours carefully for the wedding party as she did not want a ‘christmasy’ look but a winter wedding. A real hit were the groomsmen’s sweaters!
Jenelle + Lonnie exchanged wedding gifts which were so personal. Lonnie gave seven gifts – one for each year they had been together and each representing a milestone in their relationship. Jenelle gave Lonnie leather golf head covers customized with the wedding date.
A Bride and Her Maids with A Naturally Beautiful Look
The naturally beautiful aura of the bride and her bridesmaids shines boldly in this forest theme. The creative minds behind this gorgeous editorial found their inspiration in the rich tones of the forest. So dark forest green with a deep yellow were used in this warm and inviting scene in the woods. The peaceful serenity of the forest showcases the movement and colour of the bride and her bridesmaids.
Of course, the showstopper is the bride with her crown of flowing red locks! Her hair is perfectly showcased by the detailed, yet simplistic, feel to her gown and sumptuous flowers. The bridesmaids are perfect in their beauty surrounded by the serenity of the woods.
Jewellery for the Bride is a Natural Look
The one of a kind jewellery worn by the bride was a find, through happenstance, of a Ucluelet shop. The jewellery designer was more than happy to come up with pieces just for this shoot in the perfect emerald green colour.
We were really impressed with the attention to local talent and creations that were showcased in this editorial – shop local and look at the beauty you can enjoy!
Josh and Taryn’s intimate seaside elopement was simply beautiful and filled with west coast details. The sun began to set just as the couple began their vows to each other. It doesn’t get more romantic than that!
After the ceremony, the couple had cake and champagne at a table in the nearby park. Taryn, the bride, makes custom cakes and so their cake was made by her loving hands. We love the cake topper that made the elopement announcement. Of course, the photos with the cake were a fun way for the couple to announce their elopement to family and friends. Just to make it even more special the photo was featured on Huffpost!
After their photo session, the newlyweds headed to Fernwood in Victoria for a candlelit dinner and champagne. The perfect ending to their first evening as husband and wife!
Elopements are becoming a very popular way to tie the knot without any fuss. Couples can choose anywhere from a beach to a busy street to exchange their vows. The planning and stress are way down and there is no worry about guests and timelines. Intimacy and privacy are the main idea and couples who elope will find plenty of love and fun when it’s just the two of them! We are so glad we were able to share in Josh and Taryn’s intimate seaside elopement!
A Wonderful Tea for Two Engagement for Veronica & Quinten
A wonderful tea for two engagement for Veronica and Quinten celebrating their upcoming west coast wedding. Engagement sessions are fast becoming the best part of getting comfortable with your wedding photographer. Couples are keeping it relaxed, thought much more creative, and taking photos in places important to them. Highlighting hobbies, special moments and shared passions makes these sessions so personal and intimate.
Couples are keeping it relaxed while being much more creative!
Don’t forget to pull together your fashion – it doesn’t have to be fancy but it can be if you want! Blankets, your special t-shirts, formal gowns…it’s whatever works for you, your partner and the story you are telling. It will also depend to some degree on your location choices and time of year. Although, if you want to swim in the ocean in January no one can technically stop you! Some couples have even had beautiful floral arrangements created for the occasion or hired a planner to provide décor and direction.
Veronica and Quinten Engagement Story
So we loved Veronica and Quinten’s engagement story because they did it all! They both love drinking tea so the ‘tea for two’ picnic was perfect. It also led to some great blanket shots among the forest trees. The ocean side showcased Quinten’s love of photography and sketching while Veronica channeled her inner goddess which was perfect for the lovely floral bouquet. We especially loved the great smiles on these two! The gorgeous sunset in the background is a real highlight as well. This wonderful tea for two engagement is a real inspiration for couples!
Engagement Session Tip:
Be sure to have a chat with your photographer before and let them know if you are hoping for sunset shots. Your photographer will set up the timing and location – don’t expect them to just ‘know’! It is a great idea to send a Pinterest Board of ‘shot ideas’ that you would like to have in your session.
The naturally beautiful west coast engagement session of Steph & Jamie will give you even more great Vancouver Island location ideas!
The Maggie Sottero Barefoot Bride Sessions
Barefoot bride, Autumn, has a fascinating gown story. She found a photo of a Maggie Sottero on Pinterest and sent it to her mother and aunt via text with the caption ‘my dream dress’! She and her family did not think it would be possible to find it on Vancouver Island and began searching online.
However, Autumn’s aunt discovered what she thought might be the dress, completely by accident, on a sample sale rack at Shades of White Bridal in Victoria. She quickly called Autumn who left work (with her boss’ blessing) to try it on. Autumn needed only seconds to announce that this was, indeed, THE DRESS. One would think there would be great rejoicing….but it was in a size 10 when Autumn is, generously, a size 2. A frantic call to Fern, of The Bride’s Closet, to discuss the seemingly impossible alterations followed. Fern assured Autumn that she could take the form fitting gown to a Size 2 and so the precious Maggie Sottero was purchased.
Barefoot Bride Design
Fern began working on the alterations months in advance and managed to recreate the Maggie Sottero gown into a perfect size 2 without changing any of the design. At the last fitting, Fern came out with a matching church veil edged in lace. Autumn’s mother began to tear up at the sight of Autumn in her gown with veil and asked if she could give it to Autumn as her personal gift. Autumn loved the idea that her groom would be so pleased with such a traditional touch and so the veil became part of the ensemble.
Barefoot Bride Session
Several months after their wedding, Autumn and Ryan joined their photographers once again for an after wedding session. The first part of the day was spent with Autumn as a barefoot bride. She quickly crawled up cliffs to allow the breeze to catch her veil for photos. Autumn was worried a little more about the water shots as she is rather attached to her gown but, in the end, she left worry behind! Thankfully, her gown and veil soaked beautifully back to their natural state after the shoot. (Whew!)
Gorgeous Greenery and Sweet Cakes Make For West Coast Wedding Inspo
Dessert Tables are one of the best part of weddings and this one with gorgeous greenery and sweet cakes tops it all. So much goodness and fun! Cakes, cupcakes, cake pops, doughnuts and lots of other yumminess are found on all the best wedding dessert tables. To top it all off, it won Best Dessert Table at the 2017 Vancouver Island Wedding Awards!
The beauty of this tablescape is it’s white iced cakes, cupcakes and pops sitting on glassware and surrounded by white roses. The warmth of candlelight made for a pleasing scent from the greenery and roses. The lovely fountain and landscaping of Olympic View Golf Course served as the perfect backdrop.
The tablescape was designed to be added to the reception décor provided by Decorate Victoria. Boho chic and lush florals were showcased with blush pink and gold centerpieces highlighted by vintage lights which were strung behind the head table. Succulents were randomly placed on the tables and served as giveaways to guests. The piece de résistance – the 26′ live edged head table which included 300 roses and 600 foliage stems!
Family Heirloom Included with Cakes!
The lovely lace gracing the middle of the tablescape is a piece of linen tatting that was provided by the bride’s grandmother. The original piece was handmade in 1861 by the bride’s great great grandmother.
A Modern Cake + Goodie Touch
It is an interesting touch to have antique linens alongside Tim Horton’s timbits! The table designer was careful to only choose timbits that were the correct colour and texture to match the cakes and cupcakes colour palette. The ultimate in Canadian wedding touches, eh?
An antique glasshouse and veiled beauty! We are so thrilled to showcase locally this Hatley Castle wedding editorial that inspires those who love historical elegance. The glasshouse hales from over a hundred years ago and was restored through an endowment to Hatley Castle. In the past, no grand estate was without a glasshouse. They housed tropical plants meant to provide a warm sanctuary during winter weather. Hatley Castle gave permission for this wonderful historical greenhouse to be the backdrop for this lovely Vancouver Island wedding editorial.
We especially love the botanically inspired stationery that complements the deep toned florals and the greenhouse greenery. The décor features rich autumn tones and non conventional elements within a historical venue. The ethereal setting is paired with modern geometric shapes to create an original atmosphere. Geometric shapes are a big trend for weddings – the metallic shades work with any colour you may choose.
The lovely veil adds to a slightly mysterious feel of our bride. The gown features a cut out in the bodice along with peek a boo lace around the shoulders. Our fav is the head jewellery that duplicates the geometric shapes seen in the décor!
Historical Venues (like a glasshouse!!)
Are you looking to recreate this look for your photos? Start looking around for older buildings and heritage homes or perhaps a conservatory/atrium in your area. Unique venues are often found in museums and theaters. Hatley Castle books photography sessions – see here for more info. Private homes may also be willing to book wedding photography sessions if you ask very nicely!
From Ocean to Castle – Carmen & Samuel’s Engagement Session
From Ocean to Castle – Carmen & Samuel’s Engagement Session
We loved this engagement session with ocean views and castle shots! Samuel & Carmen wanted to have their photos represent their love for the city of Victoria as their romance grew around the community and the beauty of Vancouver Island. So how did these two end up engaged and planning their wedding this fall?
The Love Story to Engagement!
Samuel and Carmen had been attending the same church for over a decade without ever really talking to each other. It wasn’t until they joined the same dodgeball team that they started to spend time with each other. Samuel found every opportunity to get to know Carmen better. He even watched 10 seasons of Friends when he found out it was her favourite TV show. Samuel also learned that Carmen enjoyed stargazing and, as luck would have it, it was at the time of the annual Perseid meteor shower. He asked her to hang out that evening for the first time and they ended up spending the whole night looking for shooting stars and talking till sunrise.
After much persistence, Carmen willingly gave in and the two began dating. Their favourite activities together include spending time outdoors, playing sports, watching their favourite TV shows together, and studying at coffee shops. A couple years ago, Carmen found out she had to move to Victoria for work. This began two years of a long distance relationship. Each would spend weekends on the ferry traveling back and forth. Many nights would be spent on FaceTime chatting and finding creative ways to continue their dates.
Finally, on a Wednesday in July, Sam flew over to Victoria with a ring in his pocket and a guitar in hand. He set up photos all over Carmen’s apartment and sat down on a stool with his guitar and waited for Carmen to come home. Hours later, when Carmen opened the door, Sam sang a song for Carmen and asked if she would marry him. Carmen happily agreed and they will be tying the knot this coming September!
Elopement is the ultimate way to have a private ceremony with just the two of you (and an officiant) someplace special. You can imagine our excitement over this Vancouver Island mountain top elopement when the first photo appeared! Vistas that stretch for miles, perfectly blue sky and a very adventurous couple that wished to celebrate their love at the top of the world.
Chris surprised Danielle a few days before the planned wedding with the idea and it couldn’t have turned out better. Clayoquot Sound looked amazing from the air and the water provided a lovely colour show along with a whale sighting! Of course, special thanks to Atleo Air for this elopement!
This elopement is wonderful with the photos both above and below the mountaintops. Be sure that you have a Plan B should the weather not cooperate for helicopter flights. And when you are going to snowy caps be prepared with suitable warm clothing and footwear! A wedding planner can really be helpful if it is a destination wedding as they will know what you will need for your adventure of a lifetime.
Filberg Heritage Bride on Vancouver Island
Filberg Heritage Bride on Vancouver Island! We love the heritage feel to this beautiful wedding editorial photographed in Comox Valley. Burnished gold and ivory are paired with the antique browns and organic greens found in the gardens and structures around. The gorgeous bride appears to be a natural work of art belonging in these surroundings!
The floral is the real star of this tableau with blush roses and peonies paired with deep colored greenery. Lush arrangements spill over the bride’s arms and down stairs. The heritage feel of the open blooms and antique shades bring this Filberg Heritage Bride to live in modern times.
Details such as a wedding cake afloat in greenery, the paper suite providing a burst of colour and lush floral really draw this whole photo painting to a spectacular finish. Enjoy!
Ryan & Autumn suit the modern bohemian style perfectly. We love the blush colours, the greenery and the contrast with the blue of the grooms suit. The Vancouver Island ocean vistas behind draw the eye to the dreamy and romantic palette. The floral bouquet and crown are filled with antique beige roses and succulents along with various types of foraged greenery. The finishing touch are the ribbons flowing from the bouquet. This couple epitomizes the boho-chic romanticism creating a naturally beautiful wedding day.
The photography style creates a real mood for these couple shots. Ryan and Autumn had sent their photographer ‘style photo boards’ prior to their wedding day. They had collected photos that they loved off Pinterest so that their photographer had an idea of the shots they really wanted. It’s obvious that this idea worked out well for them and the photographer!
Looking to have a bohemian wedding day? Overflowing bouquets, head wreathes, lots of lace and lush floral displays are a must. You can also add vintage décor and family heirlooms. Mismatched bridesmaid gowns add to the boho theme and allowing your bride tribe to choose their own dresses always makes them happy!
Trends & Inspiration: After the Wedding Styled Shoots
Trends & Inspiration: After the Wedding Styled Photo Sessions are increasing in popularity for couples who are looking for photos in remote locations or just in a more relaxed state of mind than on the wedding day.
Trends & Inspiration: After the Wedding Styled Photo Sessions
It’s true that there is no way to go to multiple locations and spend hours with a photographer on your wedding day. That time is usually spent with guests and enjoying the marriage ceremony. But who wouldn’t like to have more opportunity with their photographer? So, after the wedding sessions are popping up all over and the results have been spectacular.
There seems to be two schools of thought – the after session being a completely different look to the wedding or recreating the wedding day. It’s certainly a great excuse to get to wear the dress again! Some sessions are becoming beautiful styled shoots which are set in the couple’s favorite spots or centred around a certain theme.
We loved this After Wedding Styled Shoot with Rachel & Gabriel. Their session began from a very sad story involving their wedding day photographer losing their photos. Instead of dwelling on such a negative experience, Gabriel & Rachel decided to throw themselves into a gorgeous styled shoot with photographer Brij Charon that highlighted both Vancouver and Victoria landmarks such as Fairmont Hotel Georgia and St. Ann’s Academy.
We appreciate Rachel’s advice about their experience. “We never thought we would be the couple who would have a photography disaster. But that allowed us to dream up something bigger and better with a styled shoot. The flexibility with timeline was so much fun and created a chance for better shots and creativity.”
Eco-Chic and Eco-Conscious Weddings on Vancouver Island
These days ‘green’ is in and being eco-conscious is becoming morepopular…but what is a ‘green wedding’, is it possible and will it add stress to planning your wedding day?
A green wedding may seem like a wonderful idea in theory but then seem overwhelming when it comes to the reality of choices. Are those plates considered polluting? How do you have sustainable catering? The questions come fast and furious. However, the answer is actually simpler than most couples might know. Once you get through the initial planning stages and have a vision, the ‘green’ aspect will be easier to incorporate in the big picture. It will also help you only purchase what is really necessary and keep your eco-conscious look minimal.
Why are couples planning a green wedding? Some couples lead a ‘green’ lifestyle and so this naturally translates to their wedding day. Others choose to lessen their impact on the environment as a way to show their support of the serious issues on such an important day in their lives. Others choose this option to show a ‘less is more’ attitude with the unique and creative take on their day. A sustainable wedding also helps the local economy and supports eco-friendly businesses.
The important thing to keep in mind when planning is to try to leave as little as possible in the way of an environmental footprint. The ‘green wedding’ is an emerging idea so don’t quit if you can’t get to a zero footprint. The bottom line is, anything you can do to reduce the size of your wedding’s carbon footprint is a win. Be creative & have fun with it! If it seems too much, but is important to you, then look for a ‘green’ wedding planner who will walk you through it and help you find environmentally friendly vendors.
That being said, couples can do it on their own by simply keeping the main idea of reducing their carbon footprint in mind and getting creative. Pinterest is full of amazing ideas for using local plants, creating ‘kids nooks’ to keep children busy, table décor…the possibilities are endless. And here is a bonus: it often brings costs in lower!
Think locally, sustainably and follow the ‘less is more’ motto. Vancouver Island has become a wonderful place to plan a green wedding with options from farm to table food, ethical hair and makeup,LEED venues, and more to come as the industry becomes more eco-conscious.
So remember that while The Green Wedding may seem daunting the truth is that it’s doable – you can support the environment and have it all on your wedding day!

Boho River Romance in the Majestic West Coast Forest
Boho River Romance – A river romance among the majestic pines. This stunning forest boho editorial, along a river’s edge, is filled with eclectic details and beautiful flowers. We loved the bridal gown, which couldn’t be more chic, plus a guitar playing groom which certainly adds to the bohemian feel! Be sure to watch the lovely behind the scenes video.
The current trend of creating cozy and inviting seating tableau in field, forests and along beaches is showcased perfectly here. You can picture the bride and groom on the chairs with the fun pillows and eating their first meal as Mr. & Mrs. along the river bank. The charming yet varied mixture of decor and flowers creates a relaxed feeling while still retaining the importance of the event. One gets the feeling that the personality of a couple shines through all the fascinating pieces of decor. A perfect Boho River Romance!
Dark Elegance in Sea Cider’s Forest for Gothic Wedding
The dark elegance created in Sea Cider’s forest made for a unique gothic and one-of-a-kind experience for Steph and Jared. Gothic overtones mixed with vintage finds showcased a turn of the century elegant mystery novel feel to the reception. This wedding certainly caught our eye!
Steph and Jared had their wedding vision firmly in mind when they met with their planner of choice. Tammy, of Blue Lily Event Planning, recalls how they spoke about wanting their personalities to shine through on their big day. Translation? A goth wedding with a speakeasy feel along with some wonderful vintage. These eclectic choices had Tammy very excited as she went about creating this wonderfully dark elegant look for Steph and Jared .
A gothic wedding with a speakeasy feel along with some wonderful vintage!
Tammy: “The first thing we all agreed on was that we had to have Lynda from Fleurtacious be the florist and the designer of Steph’s original veil. This really set the tone right from the beginning.
The ceremony was in Sea Cider’s forest facing the end of an uprooted tree. Lynda created the most amazing floral arrangement for it. She hung glass orbs with skull candles and florals from the tree end. We also handmade paper cones from vintage sheet music and filled them with dark red roses and other flowers for the confetti.
We brainstormed with Steph and Jared for ideas and then built an amazing team of vendors who were excited to do something a little different than the usual!
The decision was made to make details a huge part of the guest experience…
The decision was made to make details a huge part of the dark elegant guest experience This included two room set ups, complete with vintage furniture and tiny details of skulls, old coins, record player decanters and trays, mirrors, prohibition style wall hangings, and even the bride’s very own Ouija board!
The Cake was nothing short of spectacular with hand made black chocolate lace detailing. There was even dry ice to create a foggy mist over the dessert table during the cake cutting. Guest tables were draped with black lace and black mismatched candlesticks, gold trimmed candle holders and lanterns with twisted flowers coming out of them for a darker eerie feel. Each place setting had dark burgundy napkins, gold cutlery and a black feather with each guest’s name hand painted by the bride’s sister. As both the bride and groom are bartenders, homemade bitters were placed at each setting for the wedding favors.
The head table was draped in black lush linens, and large candelabras, rose petals, and littered with various other types of candles and bouquets for a dark Gothic feel. The large throne type chairs were actually provided at the venue for the final touch. We admit to a fondness for the unexpected silver skull sitting among the vintage décor!
Not to be forgotten – the paper suite. Each invitation was hand wrapped in black lace with custom skull tags and the black envelopes sported a wax seal. This really was the first design choice and everything else flowed from this suite. I would have to say that this is one of favorite weddings I have planned and thank Steph and Jared so much for allowing me to help create their vision! “
The Sun’s Golden Kiss on Stephanie & Ben’s Nuptials
This sun’s golden kiss has always blessed this couple! Calgarians, Stephanie and Ben, work in the airline industry and often find time to visit Ben’s family and enjoy the beauty (and warmth!) of Vancouver Island. When Ben popped the question, they knew right away that they wanted to get married on the Saanich Peninsula.
Sixty friends and family traveled from all over BC and Alberta to enjoy, not only the wedding celebration, but also a few days of rest and relaxation. The couple’s golden retriever also made the trip out from Calgary and was included throughout the day, acting as the ring-bearer… and then cupcake taster later in the evening!
We can’t get enough of the paper suite, the dessert table and all the details….and the sun’s golden kiss…
Pets At Your Wedding – A Complete Guide to a Stress Free Day
Pets at Your Wedding – One would think that the biggest wedding trend these days was lace or multi-coloured bridesmaid palettes but no…it’s pets at your wedding! Wedding photos are pouring in this year with dogs having a serious role in the affair. There is also the general animal theme with so many weddings happening at farms that have opened up as wedding venues. One thing for sure. The results are a big hit with guests and couples alike…though we can imagine there are some photographers pulling their hair out!
There are a few things to think about before including your pets in your special day. Is your pet amiable among crowds or should you have a ‘pet sitter’ for the day? Would it be better for the pet to be carried down the aisle rather than ‘walk’? Have you informed your guests in case any have allergies? Have you checked with your venue that pets are welcome. Is your pet safe and comfortable in their ‘wedding attire’ for the day?
Some pets are perfectly able to attend just like any other guest without any trouble while others may need supervision in a crowd. Remember that you can hire someone to care for your pet during the day if this is a concern for you.
If your wedding party is willing…take advantage and get those fun animal moments!
If your pet can’t be part of the ceremony then perhaps choose to do your photos where your pet can be involved. If your wedding party is willing…take advantage and get those fun animal moments!
Some pets seem to love being ‘flowered up’ but be sure that there is nothing irritating your pet. The bow tie seems most popular but there are also some pets who go full on formal with jackets and boots!
Taking the time to be sure all your ducks are in a row beforehand will save you from problems happening on the big day – and keep everyone (on two legs or four) happy!
Lavender & Love Wedding on Vancouver Island
This stunning whimsical bohemian style shoot of lavender and love was envisioned by Rebecca of Rivkah Photography. “Finally we had the lavender bloom at the right time…we wanted a warm and romantic feel and Long Meadow Farm was perfect. It was a florist’s heaven with dahlias, roses, peonies, herbs and lavender abounding. Our florist, Lynda, showed up with scissors and ribbon and created all the floral on site. We used the natural elements around us as décor. We waited out the sun for three hours to get these photos. You can almost see the bees floating around in the golden rays of the dramatic sunset!”
The magical combination of the sunset and light bouncing off the purple lavender showcase the beautiful wedding couple. Our fav things? The head wreath of lavender for the bride and the beige vest on our groom. Of course, our love for the award winning floral bouquet goes without saying. The two perfectly placed blush pink dahlias centre the surrounding greenery and floral.
The simplicity of the lavender in glass vases, gilt edged plates and silver floral containers create a lovely tablescape worthy of natural landscape. Beribboned cutler and paper suite with colour stained edges completes this perfect bohemian dreamscape!
Crochet and Lavender Love
The unusual pieces in this editorial are the crochet and tatting on the sweetheart table and wrapped around the bride and groom. These can be easily found in vintage shops and bring the boho to your décor!
