We love summers here at West Coast Weddings because that is when photographers drop their sneak peek photos from that weekend’s weddings! One trend that we are enjoying is the gorgeous floral crowns.  Once reserved for the hippie bride, bridal wreaths are everywhere. Traditional brides combine floral crowns with veils, while bohemian brides wear them atop loose curls.

Head wreaths for brides are a way to create a more casual look for the formal bride. There is no reason why you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Modern Twists on the Wedding Boutonniere for the Stylish Groom!

Boutonnieres used to be the boring part of the wedding floral – predictable and about as interesting as watching paint dry.  These days, though, there has been a resurgence in creating classic or unusual floral designs for the guys.  They bring personality and a modern twist. Colour

The men in the wedding party probably won’t get too concerned about what colour the boutonnieres are, but we can always live in hope! More grooms are getting excited about their look on the big day, including their flowers. So, send your groom over to Pinterest, and something will catch his eye. Don’t worry if it isn’t ‘matching’ your wedding palette. You can work with a floral designer to make it perfect for your aesthetic.  What colour are the groom’s and bridesmaids wearing, and what colours will be in the ladies’ floral?  Ensure the tones match or combine well across the colour spectrum.  No pale pastels on the guys, only to have jewel tones appearing across the aisle!

Be sure to choose boutonnieres that look balanced on the guy’s lapels.  Top-heavy creations will not only crease the suits but generally look odd in photos; yes, size matters! Please ensure the boutonniere is not as large as the groom’s face!  Discuss with your florist how the stems will be finished. No green floral tape should be showing! Design choices also include using just one bloom or using several smaller blooms.  Greenery can also add to the look or be used as the entire design. The trend these days is leaning toward larger or pocket boutonnieres or even entire lapel arrangements. Dream large!

Outside of the Box

Some grooms and groomsmen are not in the mood for the floral boutonniere.  No worries! There are many options for a floral alternative – think succulents, pins, berries, vintage keys, watches, feathers, etc.  Anything that might be personally meaningful or original.

A trendy look these days is the floral lapel or floral pocket. These are truly unique and perfect for the super stylish groom. The sky is the limit, and Pinterest is your best friend. Just be sure that your guy is comfortable with a more splashy look.

Logistics

Don’t forget that the boutonnieres need to be wherever your men in the wedding party have photos taken before the ceremony.  The father of the bride needs his delivered with the bride’s flowers.  And guys….please…the boutonnieres are pinned above the heart (on the left!!) and not too high (the flowers should not be touching the face!).  A good florist will include a backup boutonniere if Aunt Edna hugs the groom too enthusiastically. These details are often overlooked but become very important in the middle of your photographs.

Choose your boutonnieres wisely; they will become a unique part of your wedding and something your guys will be excited about wearing on their lapels.  We loved these boutonnieres, which span the classics to the whimsical.

Forest Glam Inspiration: Beautiful brides wandering under sun-dappled trees made us fall in love with this vibe!  The shoot’s concept is to bring glam to the forest for a vintage feel situated amongst the ferns and evergreens typical of the West Coast rainforest. Each bride’s bouquet reflected their personality and gown. The archway, bouquets, and table flowers showcase the seasons changing within the forest. Deep rich tones contrast with the femineity and light colors of the vintage furniture.

Let’s chat about the vintage furniture. Who hasn’t wanted to come upon a delightful table scenario when walking through the trees? The light blue vintage couch is simply perfect under the canopy of trees. The ceremony arch is a work of art with its luxuriant floral display and blue flowing fabric. We especially love the white sweetheart table setting for two – a newlywed setting for romance!

The wine barrel is a delightful touch with cascading florals and the candles sitting on the logs below. The orange button and blue thistle flowers are just the right touches on the greenery-covered wood arch. The rainforest look is a lush backdrop for the dahlias and roses in the bouquets. And the piece de resistance is the simply gorgeous brides in serene beauty amongst all the rich foliage around them. 

The handmade jewelry was all custom designed for this shoot. Jessica from Dug and Mary Designs copper electroformed all the crystals for the necklaces and rings and hand-created the quartz and pearl tiaras for the brides. This wedding inspo shows off British Columbia wedding talent. A true west coast wedding to inspire couples who are looking for the forest glam vibe.

Wildflower Wedding Dessert Inspiration…pressed flowers, fresh roses and orchids, cookies, and cakes! What a gorgeous dessert spread and all are sitting in a Vancouver Island meadow of fresh flowers. We fell in love with this unique creative featuring a bridal gown purely floral. However, the cakes and cookies spread were equally stunning in detail and colour.

The white wedding cake features pressed purple/blue flowers and fresh blush roses. The cookies are personalized with pressed lavender flowers. All of this delicious pretty is displayed on a vintage dresser surrounded by a field of flowers. A true wildflower wedding dessert inspiration!

If you are looking to recreate this look, be sure to find an antique piece of furniture that can be used outdoors. Find different cake plates and tiered serving stands. Strew flowers and greenery around the plates and place fresh flowers on the desserts. Voila! A naturally beautiful wedding dessert display!

Bohemian Inspired Elopement…this dreamy wedding took place at Vancouver’s ‘local castle’ better known as Swaneset. A stunning building surrounded by trees, with cascading staircases and ballrooms. A group of creative minds came together to turn a vision into reality, and the result takes your breath away.

We love the sun streaming through the windows onto this gorgeous tableau. A ceremony backdrop centers the room with florals all around. The pampas grass is perfect for the sun-dappled look, and the bride and groom have plenty of room to dance! We also love the bridal bouquet. The unexpected colours create a dramatic look and include a deep pink protea alongside yellow roses and greenery.

The bride is so beautiful in her sleeveless gown featuring a low V neck and form-fitting skirt. The train completes the formal fashion look, which is paired with the bride’s natural curls. The groom is not left out with his blue suit and tie and looking very dapper with his floral boutonniere. 

The decor in this palette is truly stunning and original. The basket chairs edged in grasses are very creative, and the entire feel is light and airy. White fabric is pillowed across the table and spills over the ends of a table filled with neutrals, place settings, and colourful flowers. Macaroons and cupcakes surround a lovely cake topped with grasses and flowers.

Garden of Eden Wedding Inspiration….the idea of a wonderland where all your favorite bridal pretty are showcased! This beautiful shoot is set in the midst of nature with luscious greenery and blooming florals. The details, like floral, fruits and desserts are planned and coordinated by Elena from Fluffy Blooms Events and is captured beautifully by L’Estelle Photography.

The brides model custom handmade gowns designed by Majesty Bespoke which boast intricate embellishments and delicate details. Each gown had it’s own personality with one featuring white lace flounces – even on the sleeves! A pale grey and white striped gown showcased the bridal bouquets perfectly. The piece de resistance was a blush pink gown with intricate bodice and gorgeous skirt. Pink peonies, white and purple roses, greenery and orchids in lush abundance surrounded the brides. Spectacular flower columns, arrangements and bouquets adorned the garden around an antique settee and sweetheart table.

Beautiful décor pieces from Ellssi Design set the scene perfectly, especially with the gorgeous velvet green couch as the centerpiece. The wood tables are perfect backdrops for the summer fruits, florals and beautiful hand crafted cake by Crown City Cakes all surrounded by breathtaking florals of every shades, the floral installation is created by Vivio Flowers. The white layered plates with fruit slices, blush pink antique wine glasses and gold cutlery with peonies are the perfect touch on the unique tablescape.

We especially love the soft and romantic stationery suite designed with real florals embedded in resin. Like a piece of beauty frozen in time, it matches the set perfectly with this whimsical theme of a Garden of Eden Wedding Inspiration.

Sophistication + Dark Romance Table Decor showcases a formal winter palette. Dark blue, burgundy, gold and purple tones reflect off the crystal and glass settings.  Our eye was immediately drawn to the inspirational use of floral in the striking wedding table decor bringing to mind the renowned still paintings of the Dutch artist Jan Davidsz. de Heem. 

We especially love the ‘Eat…Drink…We’re Married’ Paper Suite featuring menu cards, invitations and name cards. The stark contrast of the white calligraphy against black is perfect for the upscale feel of the tablescape.  The unusual cake is also in dark tones covered in deep purple hydrangea cascading down to the bottom of the cake plate edge.

Dark colour choices paired with deep jewel toned floral come together to bring an Old Hollywood mood of glamour and romance!  And by choosing glass and crystal along with gold cutlery the attention stays firmly on the dramatic decor. The deep blue linens constrast with the calla lily, hydrangea and tulips – culminating in a breathtaking, theatrical display of sophistication and dark romance.
