Tropical Empress Wedding at Bengal Lounge will fill you with inspiration. Coral and pink blooms are strewn across the raspberry linens and guest cakes grace each lovely table setting. Tropical plants. orchids and protea are covered in dappled sunlight as the bridal couple admire the suspended wedding cake.  This shoot included two couples and we are so pleased that we can finally have one of the couples’ on our blog! The second couple is featured on Equally Wed and had the honor to be showcased on the first day of LGBTQ month! Congrats to award winning photographer KGOODPhoto and all the creative people involved and to our wonderful models – Kimberley, Ashley, Mel and Alex. 

We love the tropical empress wedding details in this inspiration shoot. The Bengal Lounge is a special venue space within the updated Fairmont Empress on Vancouver Island. Rich, carved wood walls and ceilings showcase the classic wedding mood but the designers of this inspiration surprised with bright colours and modern details. 

The suspended wedding cake is covered in a modern icing in colours which reflect the table settings, floral and desserts.  Creating a harmonious palette in this venue space draws the eye towards the architectural treasures such as the fireplace and high windows. The window seats are not forgotten as they are lined with candles and framed by palms. 

The bride and groom are a mood all by themselves! Sparkles and lace adorn the low backed gown while the groom sports a classic suit and tie. The boutonniere, on the other hand, was a trendy ‘in the pocket’ collection of floral.  We are in love with the bouquets (a hoop + classic cascading) and boutonniere. The back features on the gown showcase the bride’s tattoo with the covered buttons seemingly continuing on in the same line.

The tables are works of art! First, a sweetheart table for the bride and groom including velvet chairs. The couple gets their own area in front of the century fireplace and their table is covered in raspberry linen. It features floral design on the edge and down the front of the table.  Second, a guest table featuring a tower of flowers in the center with floral winding it’s way across the tables and over the ends. Place settings include individual cakes on each plate, colourful name cards and crystal glasses.

Brentwood Bay Resort & Spa sits along some of the most beautiful views on Vancouver Island. BORROWED AND BLUE EVENTS designed so as to reflect this and the boats which surround the resort. 

We love the gorgeous PAPER SUITE, signs and calligraphy but the piece de resistance is the sailboat on the guest table! The written vows on deep blue stationery are such a lovely touch. 

The NAUTICAL THEME inspired gorgeous white and deep blue details in the decor and floral. Candles galore, both tapered and votive, created a romantic glow over the tablescape. The geometric gold shapes surrounding some of the candles gave the table design a trendy structure without losing the traditional feel. 

The cake is a HIGHLY ORIGINAL water look and is topped with a white peony and dainty cascading floral. Jewelery, created by a British Columbia artisan, completes the romantic landscape!

The beauty in this NAUTICAL BLUE BEAUTY is absolutely the bride. Her natural look is perfect – and her gown, with the cut out back and endless buttons, is the epitome of grace and sophistication.

Lustre & Lace…We loved this original editorial shoot showcasing a fascinating jewelry line, vintage dresses, and organic beauty. Mieke, creator of Flux & Stone Jewellery, designed this shoot with vintage wedding gowns and clean makeup, which lends to the feel of natural beauty.

So, what makes this artist’s work so fascinating? Mieke explains, “I like to call some of my work ‘bridal science’! I take lace from a wedding gown and, using electroforming, encase it in copper. It can be described as growing copper around an object using positive and negative charges.” The result is beautifully original.

Mieke finds herself particularly inspired by the West Coast and Vancouver Island and describes her work as infusing love into each piece. “I like to remind women of their wild nature and natural beauty. Wedding jewelry doesn’t always have to be blingy…it can be earthy and original.”

Wedding Trends & Inspiration for Custom Jewelery

Proposals may be ever-changing, but one thing remains the same: there is always a ring! If you want the ultimate wedding or engagement ring, custom design, or purchase, a one-of-a-kind piece cannot be topped.

So we chatted with Emma Glover, a Jewellery Designer and metalsmith, about the ins and outs of custom rings.

What do you find interesting about working on ring designs?

“I feel so honored to work with people in love and hear all their stories – sometimes I hear about the proposals ahead of time! So that is where we start. We talk about their partner’s tastes and personality. If they have inspirational photos or ideas, we look at them to put everything into a design concept. I am fortunate not to be a salesperson but an artist who creates works that make people very happy!”

What is the process for designing a ring?

“Many people come in feeling stressed, thinking it’s going to be complicated, but I work really hard to make it enjoyable.  I often create wax carvings for the design so it can be viewed in 3D.  Changes can be made then, and I can give an estimated price before I start the ring.”

What inspires you to continue in ring design?

“I really get inspired by nature around me, but at other times, I am inspired by the people I am working with – I have had clients bring in the music they wanted me to listen to or jewelry inherited through family. Creating a one-of-a-kind ring that will be worn in love is always meaningful and special!”

Custom pieces will be valued and passed down to the next generation, showing that so much thought has gone into the importance of the occasion. A real story to tell the grandkids! Wedding trends & inspiration for custom jewelery are something every proposal needs.
