Champagne Bubbles: Capturing Your Newlywed Moment…We love that moment when a couple steps away from their ‘I do’s and pops the cork on their first champagne bottle as a new couple. There will be more bottles in the future with new homes, babies, promotions, and holidays. There was likely a bottle involved in your proposal!  So this is one of those ‘must capture’ moments with your photographer. But how to catch the perfect photos?

Of course, it would be wonderful if every champagne moment was caught without any planning, but the truth is that the best shots have some thought behind them. Try to imagine where you would like your backdrop for the champagne opening, and have the bottle and glasses set up ahead of time. Make it part of the schedule to run there immediately after the ceremony. Ensure your photographer is well-informed about your preferences by sending ‘photo ideas’ ahead of time.

Opening a bottle of bubbly out of sheer joy is not the only moment that champagne can be used at your wedding. Think champagne toasters, tiny bottles as giveaways, having a glass poured for each guest for a toast, duelling cocktail hour, and during pre-celebrations with bridesmaids. Thankfully, we no longer ‘behead’ the bottles with sabres (yes, that’s from the French), but remember to aim away from anything you might not wish to damage.

The champagne bottle moment is an opportunity for newlyweds to take a little time out of an exciting day for themselves. Be joyful about the ceremony that has just celebrated their love and acknowledge the future that is created. So take the time to be sure you capture your first champagne bubbles as newlyweds – raise a glass to yourselves and the milestone you have reached together!

We love the suits and bowties, the gorgeous wedding party, and that cake! The white four-layer cake is topped by white and black anemones, which also pop up throughout the decor. Intimate + Adventurous Lake Wedding

Anastasia and Lev are truly adventurous souls. They spend a lot of time hiking and exploring BC’s beautiful mountains in their trusty adventure mobile. So when they chose their wedding venue, they wanted to have something that was a reflection of them as a couple. After some location scouting, Anastasia and Lev decided on a secluded beach at Chilliwack Lake, accessible only off-road. All 18 of their guests, plus their sweet pup, adventured out to this incredible spot on a beautiful, sunny, and hot July day. After their beautiful ceremony, everyone packed up and returned to civilization to enjoy an intimate dinner at Chilliwack’s Bravo Restaurant. It was a perfect celebration of Anastasia and Lev’s beautiful love.

We love the truly amazing dog that gave the best pepper photos and was on the spot as ringbearer. A special shout-out to guests who are obviously the world’s best family and friends for hiking into where Anastasia + Lev chose to exchange vows. And what a fashion couple who knew their assignment with the plaid suit and simplistic gown. A real example of having a naturally beautiful BC wedding and being super stylish!

Mountain Top Elopement on Vancouver Island 

Elopement is the ultimate way to have a private ceremony with just the two of you (and an officiant) someplace special. You can imagine our excitement over this Vancouver Island mountain top elopement when the first photo appeared! Vistas that stretch for miles, perfectly blue sky and a very adventurous couple that wished to celebrate their love at the top of the world.

Chris surprised Danielle a few days before the planned wedding with the idea and it couldn’t have turned out better. Clayoquot Sound looked amazing from the air and the water provided a lovely colour show along with a whale sighting!  Of course, special thanks to Atleo Air for this elopement!

This elopement is wonderful with the photos both above and below the mountaintops. Be sure that you have a Plan B should the weather not cooperate for helicopter flights. And when you are going to snowy caps be prepared with suitable warm clothing and footwear! A wedding planner can really be helpful if it is a destination wedding as they will know what you will need for your adventure of a lifetime.

We love the reception details with lovely cupcakes and an outdoor supper. The pizza party at a children’s table is an inspirational idea for sure. Iced cookies are a unique and pretty touch. Top 10 Reasons to Choose an Okanagan Destination Wedding by Liz Moore… there are so many fantastic reasons to choose a destination wedding in the Okanagan Valley.  Firstly, you’ll experience rolling hills and valleys filled with a lush green oasis of vineyards. Secondly, you’ll love the one-of-a-kind wedding venues found throughout the region. Thirdly, resorts boast the region’s best natural landscapes, including some of British Columbia’s best native artwork. And the list goes on and on. REASON 10 – Okanagan Dream Destination Weather

We know through experience brides often think of a peak summer wedding in the Okanagan. And yes, it is simply divine to marry during this time. Not to mention in July, Okanagan lavender is in full bloom and perfect for bridal bouquets! The summer encompasses lovely sun and heat and very little rain. It’s ideal for planning your outdoor wedding ceremony and reception.   Some parts of the Okanagan, such as Osoyoos, are located in the desert belt. Average temperatures are warmest in peak summer months. They are often reaching up to (35C) or (77F). Therefore sunset weddings are more suitable during this time.

REASON 9 – Off-Peak Season Pricing Perks

Let’s face it: The Okanagan Valley is a fantastic destination choice during the popular summer months. However, there are additional advantages to consider booking your wedding in the pre-or post-summer season. True, it’s a little more off-season as far as lake activities and sports. 

However, these times do make for overall more competitive hotel pricing.  And often, venue pricing becomes a little more reasonable in price point as well.  The added benefit is that your out-of-town guests can stay a bit longer. And enjoy an abundance of post-wedding festivities and tours.

REASON 8 – Easy Access from Western Canada and the US

Once you are in your designated area of the Okanagan, getting around this region is very easy. Highway 97 (The Okanagan Highway) is the main road that will take you straight from North Vernon to Southern Osoyoos. Many out-of-town guests may opt to fly into Kelowna International airport. And here there are lots of car rental options to choose from. Guests driving from Alberta and further East will find the highways both Southern and Northern also convenient for travel.

Hiking trails galore 

Another excellent group option would be to explore the hiking trails. There are so many fantastic trails to tackle in the region.  One particular favourite of mine is at Silver Star Mountain Resort. The resort’s gondola offers 22 kilometers of hiking trail splendor. Additionally, the high-speed chairlift accesses the bike park. Perfect for those action adventurists in your group. Kelowna hiking includes Knox Mountain, Angel Springs trail, just to name a few of the vast options here!

Wine tours 

Of course, you won’t want to miss booking a group tour of the spectacular vineyards that dot along the Okanagan valley. One of my favourite wine tour companies is Sip Happens Wine Tours. They are conveniently located in all central city locations in the Okanagan Valley. Tours run from April through to October.  Pretty much the entire wedding season! And best of all you can book a half-day or full-day tour. Most importantly, they can accommodate both smaller intimate and larger festive groups.

REASON 6 – LGBTQ Friendly 

Our LGBTQ community will love Kelowna and the surrounding area when it comes to exchanging their wedding vows. The Okanagan Valley warmly welcomes our same-sex wedding community. To note, same-sex weddings are legal throughout Canada.  And our LGBTQ community will feel entirely at ease while vacationing here. Keep in mind mid-June is usually when Kelowna celebrates Kelowna Pride. Therefore planning a June wedding in Kelowna can work out great for post-wedding fun in the Okanagan Sun!

Another of my favourite things to do while on your honeymoon is visiting Burrowing Owl Estate Winery. Especially if you are staying in the Osoyoos region, it’s just a quick drive from Osoyoos. Or better yet, rent bikes and take a leisurely ride over to experience some of the Okanagan’s best food and wine. Not to mention spectacular vineyard views!

This is why so many couples from Vancouver, Alberta, and the Western United  States are flocking here to marry.  From Vernon to Kelowna, Penticton to Osoyoos, you’ll find a wealth of venues and resorts to plan your fairytale wedding. 

Best of all, the vast 135 Km Okanagan Lake flows through each of these famous cities. Additionally, adding a plethora of fun lake activities for group vacation fun.  And, of course, those much-desired gorgeous wedding photographs. Road Trip Elopement Inspiration…everyone loves a road trip but, even better, is a road trip ending with an elopement! This inspirational shoot stars a marvelous classic blue car that creates quite the pop of colour in the majestic mountain scenery. Smoke bombs, a yellow couch and burgundy roses make for a unique décor palette So, buckle up!.

This couple are glamourous in dark, stylish colours and flowers. The bride has a gorgeous floral crown with her sparkly burgundy gown and carries a bouquet of blush pink roses. We love the black hat with florals, as well. The groom dons a blue shirt with burgundy tie.

We love the the lounge tableau at the end of the road. The yellow couch is the piece de resistance and so much fun! Venetian Elegance was more than just a wedding theme for Stefania and David. David proposed at the Venetian in Las Vegas. The two of them so loved the resorts richness of golds and classic whites that they decided to have the same regal and classy look when they married. They also carried the look through the reception with touches of Venetian luxury. Ladies at their reception were gifted with a Maschera del Galeone Venetian Masks from Venice while the gentlemen received a bottle of Jack Daniels whisky.

David + Stefania met in high school but it wasn’t until after school that they began to talk and see one another. During the first couple of months they both knew this was and that they would eventually get married. They dated for 7 years before David surprised Stefania with the proposal in Las Vegas on a gondola at the Venetian. After Stefania said ‘yes’ they had a few days of celebration with family and friends in Vegas.

The wedding planning for all of the Venetian Elegance started in Vegas when Stefania’s sister made a list of everything to do once they were back in Vancouver. The ceremony was unique and beautiful being held at the Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Vancouver. White orchids were everywhere as Stefania and her bridesmaids walked down the aisle. The ring bearer was adorable and the groom and his groomsmen were handsome in their custom suits. Afterwards, guests luxuriated in the food and laughter at the Vancouver Club reception. A stunning tiered cake with gilt gold edges was covered in blush and merlot roses and served to guests later in the evening.

As Stefania says. “It was the wedding I had always dreamed about becoming a reality. We were fortunate to have all the small and big things we wanted be a part of our big day, from the flowers to the custom made dress it was truly perfect. Our wedding was definitely the best day of my life, as cliche as that sounds I wouldn’t change one thing. All our vendors went above and beyond to truly bring our vision to life and we will be forever thankful to everyone who made this experience and our day perfect!”
